In the International Rachmaninov-Competition of young pianists pupils of musical schools, colleges, academies, conservatories and those who study privately may take part.
For the solution of the organisation questions is formed the Organisation-Committee of the Competition under the chairmanship of Peter Benz, ex-head of Darmstadt, the chairman of the Town Society for Supposing and Developing of Culture.
Responsible for organising the competition is Nikolaj Eurich, executive director of the Rachmaninov-Society of Germany.
The competition will be assessed by the International Jury, which consists of famous
Musicians and teachers.
The president of the Jury, professor of the Franz Liszt- University of Music, Weimar,
is Grigory Gruzman who is also the president of the Rachmaninov-Society of Germany.
A member of the Jury of the competition who somehow is connected with a
competitor being his (her) teacher doesn't vote in the assessing of him (her).
Audition of the First Round (elimination) will be held in Darmstadt (January 2008) on CD, DVD, Tape or VHS, sent by post to the Organizing-Committee until December 25th, 2007. Together with the recordings for participation at the Competition, it is necessary to send the following documents:
| a) | clearly filled out Application Form (after the pattern); |
| b) | copy of birth-certificate; |
| c) | three colour photos: |
| d) | copy of a document, which confirms the payment of the entrance fee; |
| e) | a document, which confirms the citizenship of the applicant (a copy of the passport); |
| f) | a brief biography; |
| g) | the programme, according to the Rounds with the reference to the total length of the work; |
| h) | copy of the student-card or diploma. |

The administration of the Competition will not accept any responsibility for lost documents. |
The entrance fee for all the participants is 80 Euro has to be paid simultaneously with the sending of the CD, DVD, Tape or VHS to the account of:

The decision of the admittance to the Second Round will be sent to all applicants
up to January 25th, 2008. Competitors are responsible for their travel costs to and
from Darmstadt. For parents and other persons who accompany the applicants
the advantages are not given. By March 15th, 2008 the mentioned participants
have to send a reservation form for hotel accommodation to the Rachmaninov-
Society of Germany.
The Rachmaninov-Society of Germany undertakes the costs for urban transport,
excursions, cultural programme and also places musical instruments at your
disposal for rehearsals and other organisation expenditures.
The foreign participants will be responsible for getting their own passports and visas.
The auditions for the Competition for the Second and the Third Rounds will be held in a public way in Darmstadt March 25th-29th. The order in performance is determined by sortition. Changes in the programme, given for the Competition are not permitted.
Each participant of the first age group will be provided with the ten minutes long rehearsal in the audition hall before the Second Round. For the second and third age group, the rehearsal for the Second Round - 15 minutes, for the Third Round - 25 minutes.
The final decision of all organisation questions, arisen during the Competition, are decided by the executive director of the Society who is responsible for organising the Competition.
The Jury's decisions at all stages are final and are not beyond any discussion and appeal.
For the Prize-Winners of the Competition (in 5 persons in every age category) money prizes are established. In addition, in every age category prizes of "Spectator's Sympathy" and "For the best performance of a composition by Rachmaninov" are provided.
The Prize-Winners in every age category will be awarded the title of laureate, they will be rewarded with diplomas of laureate and money prizes. All participants of the Competition receive certificates of the competitor in the Competition. Special prizes, established by the Organizing-Committee, are provided for the competitors (prizes of "Spectator's Sympathy" and "For the best performance of a work by Rachmaninov").
The Prize-Winners of the age category A will take part in the closing concert on March 26th, 2008, where diplomas and money prizes will be presented. The Prize-Winners of the age categories B and C will take part in the closing concert on March 30th, 2008, where diplomas and money prizes will be presented.

Programme of the First International Rachmaninov-Competition
For Young Pianists in Darmstadt, Germany.
Age Category up to 14 years old.
The First Round (elimination Round, on CD, DVD, Tape or VHS):
Minimum 2 Works from the programme of the Second Round.
The Second Round (performance duration - 20 minutes):
1. J. S. Bach. One of the following polyphonical works:
- Three part invention.
- Prelude and Fugue (from the "Well-tempered Clavier").
2. One virtuoso composition or one etude.
3. One work by S. Rachmaninov.
4. one or two compositions of russian composers
(including those from "Children's Album" by P. I. Tchaikovsky).
Age Category 15-17 years old.
The First Round (elimination Round, on CD, DVD, Tape or VHS):
Minimum 3 works from the programmes of the II and III Rounds.
The Second Round (performance duration - up to 20 minutes):
1. One of the following works by J.S. Bach:
- Three part invention.
- Prelude and Fugue (from the "Well-tempered Clavier").
2. One virtuoso composition.
3. One work by S. Rachmaninov.
4. One Composition by P. I. Tchaikovsky.
The Third Round (total playing time up to 25 minutes)
1. One or two pieces from classical sonatas or variations (Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn).
2. One work by S. Rachmaninov.
3. One work by P. I. Tchaikovsky.
4. One work by a Russian composer.
Age Category 18-21 years old.
The First Round (elimination Round, on CD, DVD, Tape or VHS):
Minimum 3 works from the programmes of the II and III Rounds.
The Second Round (total playing time up to 25 minutes):
1. One polyphonical work (for example, one Prelude and Fugue from the "Well-tempered
Clavier" by J. S. Bach).
2. One virtuoso composition.
3. One work by S. Rachmaninov.
4. One work by P. I. Tchaikovsky or one work by another Russian composer.
The Third Round (total playing time up to 40 minutes):
1. One classical sonata (W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, J. Haydn, M. Clementi).
2. One work by P. I. Tchaikovsky.
3. One work by S. Rachmaninov.
4. One work by another Russian composer.
Notes: 1. The order of performance is free
2. The works, which were performed in the Second Round, can not beperformed in the Third Round
